About the Artist:

Susie Rubenstein was raised in New York and moved to California in 1970. Her
introduction to clay was at Cabrillo College in Santa Cruz, CA. transferring to UC Santa
Cruz and earning a BA in Arts and Crafts and Their History in 1977. The program was
ceramics intensive and on graduating she joined the Santa Cruz Art Center while being a
studio assistant to Al Johnsen of Scott Creek Pottery. In 1983 Susie continued her
education at Kansas City Art Institute, changed her major from ceramics to fiber, earning
a BFA degree there and continuing on to Cranbrook Academy of Art for a MFA degree.
Work and travel led her back to ceramics. In 1997 teaching and maintaining a home
studio became a full-time endeavor. Since then Susie has been adjunct faculty at Soka
University, Saddleback College, and taught for the Arts in Corrections program in the
California State Prisons. From 2000-2002 she headed the ceramics and 3-dimensional

Rubenstein was the lead Professor of the Ceramics Program at Mt. San Antonio College
from 2005-2020 in Walnut, California, and recently retired, continues to maintain a
