Thanks to the success of artist Betye Saar, the Saar name has become widely recognized in American art communities and beyond. Lesser known is the work of Richard Saar, Betye's husband from 1952 to 1970. Richard Saar, together with his older brother William (Bill), founded Saar Ceramics, a studio pottery sole proprietorship, in Lawndale, California, in 1949.
This catalog, produced on the occasion of the 2018 AMOCA exhibition, presents 29 pages of full-color photography documenting work produced by Saar Ceramics. These photographs are supplemented by an essay of original research by curator Jo Lauria, produced in partnership with Alison Saar (Richard and Betye's daughter).
Softcover, full color, 29 pages. Produced in 2018.
