Farraday Newsome is a ceramic artist who creates elaborately glazed terra cotta pottery and sculptures. Her subject matter is primarily drawn from nature, often referring to the emotional and metaphorical allusions found in the natural world. Newsome has worked within the format of the vessel for forty years, exploring ideas of abundance, time, and fertility. Newsome grew up in the redwood forests of California, earning her BA in Biology from the University of California at Santa Cruz and her Masters in Art with a Ceramics Emphasis at San Francisco State University. She lives in Mesa, Arizona, sharing a studio with her husband and fellow artist Jeff Reich.
