Adrian Sandstrom grew up in rural Iowa. He received a Bachelor of Arts from Buena Vista University, Storm Lake, Iowa in 2002. After graduating he continued his study of clay by apprenticing with master potter Hank Goodman in Asheville, North Carolina. Moving to Southern California in 2004 he began working alongside ceramist Ricky Maldonado, while setting up a studio and teaching classes.
Presently Adrian resides in Harbor City, CA and showcases his works in numerous shows and galleries nation-wide. He also teaches wheel throwing classes at the Palos Verdes Art Center.
Adrian’s current work is wheel thrown multi-fired porcelain. His work is typically fired up to four times with a maximum temperature reaching cone 6 or 2230 degrees Fahrenheit. Used in the process are multiple layers of sprayed and brushed slips, underglazes, and glazes. Lastly the pots are finished with a layer of brushed luster, fired to cone 019 or 1250 degrees Fahrenheit.
