As an introduction to mold-making this intensive will cover basic techniques of making a mold
for slip casting. This is a great intensive for anyone who wants to try their hand at mold-making
with out investing in a full 9 week class or the equipment. Students will learn how to make
original forms for molding, and experiment by making both a one part and a two-three part mold
from those form. Students will be limited to a 3 part mold and a 9 inch size limit in the largest
direction due to time constraints. Plaster and clay for models are included in the cost of the class.
Students will learn the properties of casting slip, how to mix casting slip, and how to cast with
one and/or two colors of casting slip. Casting Slip will be provided by the studio.

Instructor: Qwist Joseph
After years working alongside his dad at the family bronze foundry, Qwist received his BFA in pottery from Colorado State University. He went on to complete assistantships for Del Harrow and Sanam Emami in Fort Collins, as well as Greenwich House Pottery in New York City. Later, he earned an MFA in ceramic sculpture from the University of Nebraska-Lincoln. In 2016 he was selected as an emerging artist by Ceramics Monthlyand a Windgate scholar summer resident by the Archie Bray Foundation in Helena, Montana. Currently, he lives and teaches in Riverside, California.
